Are Strapless Wedding Dresses Right For You?

The most popular style of wedding dress has been, for many years, the strapless type.  Strapless wedding dresses have dominated the bridal market for sometime.  They're both sophisticated, and elegant, and there's a hint of sensuality to them.  They're flattering to many figures, although not all, allow a great deal of freedom of movement.  They also go with most types of weddings, whether they're formal and fancy, or casual and fun.  If you'd like a vintage wedding, but still want a strapless style, add a little antique lace.  Looking for a modern touch?  Try some stylish jewelry.

Strapless gowns are best suited to women who want to show off an elegant neck, arms, and shoulders.  If you're not comfortable showing that much skin, or have problem areas like sagging arms, you may wish to avoid this style.  If you still want to go strapless, but feel uncomfortable without some covering, try a net or lace capelet, or short sleeves in sheer fabric.  This will give you the look of a strapless wedding gown without the bareness.

Another reason to beware of strapless wedding dresses is bustiness.  If you're heavier on top, consider a gown that covers more in the shoulder area.  Otherwise, you could feel like you're popping out during the entire wedding.  If you've been inspired by a celebrity gown, remember that those photos have been retouched.  Not only that, the actresses are often standing still to show the dresses at their best.  This doesn't mean that you shouldn't wear a strapless wedding dress.  It does mean that you shouldn't hold yourself to the standards of celebrity photos when you wear one.

Remember to look for individuality.  The very popularity of the strapless wedding gown means that it can get boring, especially in basic white.  Think about the embellishment on your dress and try to add some personal touches.  The women in bridal magazines may look great, but they're also being emulated by everyone.  Look for something that expresses your personal style, and consider modifying it or having it modified for you, so it suits you perfectly.

Fitting problems that are common with strapless wedding gowns, and which you should keep and eye out for, include the too big bodice, which rides up or sits away from your chest like a shelf, and the too small bodice, which can create ridges of fat or skin where they don't normally exist.  Good fit is important.  Some people may require a corselette or corset beneath a strapless gown.  If this is the case, and you've got your heart set on going strapless, don't be shy.  Corsets are a lot more comfortable than you've heard.

Before the wedding, brides wearing strapless wedding gowns may wish to focus on the arms when they exercise.  This can reduce worry about how you look when you walk down the aisle.  Whether you choose strapless, or decide to cover up, remember that you should be comfortable and happy in your gown.  After all, it's your special day.
