Gothic Wedding Dresses

Gothic clothing was extremely popular in the mid to late nineteen eighties and it has never really gone out of fashion. There is something about the Gothic that hints at a dark side. Bat wing or bell sleeves and lots of black are the two things most associated with Gothic clothing, and particularly Gothic wedding dresses. While many brides still dream of a traditional white wedding there are others who may get married in white but that is where their nod at tradition ends – what they want is a Gothic wedding with a Gothic wedding dress.

The Gothic wedding dress’s greatest appeal is its hint of the mysterious and its association with individuality a unique approach to things. Gothic dresses are usually made from a rich material such as brocade or velvet and generally speaking they will be in a dark color. A Gothic wedding dress will have a long skirt, either straight or full, and a corset or laced bodice. Gothic wedding dresses are lavishly designed with either bell shaped, flounced or batwing sleeves. The dress will usually have a plunging neckline and the wearer would have a choker at the throat. Goths tend to wear quite a lot of heavy silver jewelry.

If you do decide to have a Gothic wedding dress made then it is usual to wear dark and dramatic eye make up and bright red lipstick. It is normal to wear boots with a Gothic dress. Because the Gothic style is individualistic it is best not to be too prescriptive, while most Goths might wear a long dress in a rich fabric, there are plenty more who will wear a mini dress. It is possible to have a Gothic wedding dress made from black leather or black pvc – again this would be worn with dramatic make up and many Goths will dye their hair black for added effect.

If you do some research online you will find that there are a number of sites offering Gothic wedding dresses, or other Gothic style clothing. Rather than the traditional veil the bride who wears a Gothic wedding dress might also want to wear a full length hooded cape in the same color as her dress. In Las Vegas it is possible to book a full Gothic wedding with a Victorian Goth wedding dress and all the accessories.

Goth is often associated with darkness and magic but the truth is that Gothic wedding dresses can be very beautiful. The long skirts and rich brocades and velvets make for a dress that any bride would be proud to wear.  Gothic covers a range of styles and a medieval or celtic style dress will also fit the bill.
