Celtic Wedding Dresses for Your Fantasy Irish WeddingDo you find inspiration in Celtic folklore and music? Do you love the style of Celtic knotwork, or yearn for the green hills of Ireland? Consider adding elements of traditional Irish weddings to create your ideal fantasy wedding, which expresses your individuality and creativity. A big part of any wedding is the gown. Like many of the traditions, modern Celtic wedding gowns are rooted in medieval and renaissance styles. The first big decision you need to make is whether or not you're going to have a themed wedding. These can be difficult to plan, but also can be magical experiences. For a fully themed wedding, you can have your ring in the claddagh style, ask guests to dress accordingly, and even have traditional Irish dancing at the reception. If you don't want to go that far, you can still include some elements in your ceremony and reception, like a Celtic wedding gown. There are a lot of different styles that can be considered “Celtic.” These include medieval gowns, based on ones worn in Ireland during that period. Some are even based on real dresses, found hundreds of years later. There are also Renaissance styles, based on a style called the “Shinrone Gown”. These generally lace up the front, and have laced on sleeves or an unusual style of sleeve composed of a strip lying along the top of the arm. These are worn with large sleeved chemises called “leine”. Other styles include corset wedding dresses, with boning built into the bodice, or a corset worn underneath, based on styles from the 16th century through the 19th. You can get all Celtic wedding gowns in all kinds of fabrics. Velvet, silk, and satin are all very popular with brides who are having Irish weddings. Be sure that you ask your tailor to leave a few stitches unsewn. It's believed to be lucky to sew the last stitch on the morning of your wedding. While you should be careful with your Celtic wedding gown, like all fancy gowns, don't fret too much if a small rip develops. This, too is a sign of good fortune in old Irish folklore. You might want to incorporate elements from Celtic artwork, too. These can include embroidered knotwork, clasped hand motifs, or many others. Your Celtic wedding gown is limited only by your imagination and creativity. Talk to a dressmaker to get the best Celtic wedding gown for your special day.
